The rain runs down the costal mountains to the sea below.  Along the way cascades and water falls form, some year round others only ephemeral.

Patrick Grey > Pigeon Point Light Station

Located 50 miles south of San Francisco the 115-foot tall Lighthouse is one of the tallest in America. Started into operation in 1872 using a five-wick lard oil lamp and first-order Fresnel lens. In 2001 damage to the lighthouse forced it's closure the grounds remain open for visitation.

Just south of San Francisco is a beautiful stretch of coast line.  From Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz this mostly agriculturally area is spotted with open space preserves and state parks.

Patrick Grey > Seals along the San Meteo Coast

Harbor seals are found in northern oceans in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Along the Pacific coast, they range from Alaska to Baja California, and on into Mexico. They are often seen along the San Meteo Coast sun bathing on the rocky out croppings.

The tule elk can be found in the Tule Elk Preserve at Tomales Point. They graze freely and are seen as you hike into the preserve.
